„Twilight in Olympus“ is the follow up of „Divine Wings of Tragedy“, the album where Symphony X let more progressive metal influence floating into their music. This way they continue as consequence also with „Twilight in Olympus“, as they put many classical elements into their keyboard parts.
The voice of the opener „Smoke and Mirrors“ strong remembers to Dio or Joe Lynn Turner in holy Rainbow times. The 9-minute „Church of the Machine“ points with awesome harmony vocals and church like keyboards. The short „Sonata“ is pure classic. Highlight of the album for sure is „Through the looking glass“ with it’s 13 minutes, that unites all elements of progressive metal. Again there will be remembrance to Rainbow’s amazing album „Bent out of Shape“.
„The Relic“ again shines with spinett sounding keyboard and cutting guitars. Unfortunately the album has no time to let you breathe, accept „Sonata“. Only the last song „Lady of the Snow“ has mainly balladesque vibes, supported by majestic classic sounds. This is the players choice for people that don’t know this album.
All in all „Twilight in Olympus“ is a perfect mix of power metal and prog metal.
