“There at the Edge of Heaven…”
…Where darkness begins, the witches are blowing into the flutes and the demons are gathering preparing the ground for “Aeons of Satan’s Reign”. Satan’s Wrath keep rolling on the evil way releasing their second album after their last year debut release. No surprises are hidden in the album, as it goes on from where “Galloping Blasphemy” ended, but everything sounds more loudly.
The album is not a revival, it’s the result after a great effort from the band that keeps playing its beloved music and honoring bands like Venom, Slayer, Possessed and Sodom and their first albums that are used to be hearing just like the sound of brimstone when it flows from the sanctuaries of hell. And trust me, if you enjoy those albums every day more and more then and this album fits you. A great mixture of ancient black/thrash with truly moments of NWOBHM as it first sounded in the very early days of ’80s in England. “Only Satan Is Lord” and “Die White Witch Die” offer memorable choruses and drumming feels like the running of hoofs.
Apart from the sound, what else is heard freely than the debut, is the lead guitar parts and the solos that can appear in any moment of the song. May this is happening because now Satan’s Wrath are a full band and not consisted of Tas and Stamos only, who by the way keep the helms. By hearing to “Lives of the Necromancers” and “Satan’s Blood, Lucifer’s Fire” you ‘ll get to the point. Also, you gonna love “Ecstasies of Sorcery” which sounds like it comes from “South of Heaven” album, with a thrash/speed riff in the beginning and a galloping ending. Who heard it and didn’t his eyes turn into black…
A really praiseworthy album and if the above songs are heard to some of you just same old same, the same title song of the album “Aeons of Satan’s Reign” is a grand opus. A charming prelude touching the dark melodies of Mercyful Fate from their debut, and the rest parts of the song are a flame. Tas spits angry words and the organic melody in the end is the catchiest moment (including the precedent riffing and nothing makes you say they are heard like others).

“And Spring Came Unexpectedly”
For almost a decade prog/tech metal has given us albums full of pleasant moments, intricate compositions and may some surprises, but few. The one thing missing was madness; the madness of thousand riffs being played upon lead parts that could make the human brain be exploded. Today, after all those years Protest the Hero like Deus ex machina serve us “Volition”, the best and why not most extremely technical metal album.
Forget the term “djent” or anything else around -core. Protest the Hero have moved steps beyond from what they used to be in their early beginnings. Endless riffing, drumming and if you try to count them in the end you may forget your name and who you are. The first listening of the album is just a groggy “ok”, the second lets the roots of the songs electrify your rays and in the next followings you start learning the songs. The old followers of the genre should know that the “monster mind” Ron Jarzombek states present in “Drumhead Trial”. Yeah, the one who through Watchtower made many of us face problems with our nerves. Also, think of the fact that the only albums sounding like this one in the past were “Ink Compatible” from Spastic Ink of Ron and “Sophisticated” from Sieges Even. Whoever have listened to the german release of 1994 will find many common moments into “Volition”.
“Without Prejudice”, “Yellow Teeth”, Plato’s Tripartite” and “Skies” are just some of the songs that can make you hung from any lamp in your house and start whirling on the speed of the songs. Technicality in the highest level. Beautiful vocal lines and melodies from Rody Walker and the guest appearance of Jadea Kelly can be regarded as the most successful while her sweet voice “switches off” ideally the songs. And when those moments are not enough to designate the greatness of the album, nor the brief bridges of riffing, listen to “Mist”. Enjoy it and stick at once to its grand finale. Enough said…
Do a gift to yourself and listen to the album. Forget anything you have heard about those guys, that have no relationship with the predominant prog/tech sound and feel like other years from the past, or just face the fact that Protest the Hero are the present and the future. Grab yourself and leave him in the middle of a meadow where any reaction through the listening of “Volition” will be forbidden. Attention: DO NOT DRIVE AND LISTEN TO IT!

Death Dealer would like to announce the addition of Drummer Steve Bolognese to it’s ranks.
As previous drummer for Into Eternity and a Berklee College of Music instructor, Bolognese is often spoken of as the Drummer’s “Drummer” having received mentoring from drum prodigy Mike Mangini (Dream Theater).
Steve: – “I’m happy to announce I have joined Death Dealer. It’s been awhile since I’ve played such triumphant metal but it feels great to be back at it. It’s amazing to be in a band with such talented musicians. I’m Really looking forward to working on this new epic material and hitting the road with it for all to see.”
Vocalist Sean Peck – “When we discovered Steve was interested in joining the band, I called him up and found out he is a true road warrior. We have a lot of tour plans coming up and he has been on some great ones. He knows the game and how to bend it to his will, no matter what the circumstances may be. Besides being a technical thrash master from hell, he is a funny dude and fun to hang out with which will make him a welcome addition to Death Dealer as we get ready to really blast off with a packed 2014 schedule! I couldn’t be happier!
Guitarist Stu Marshall – While Steve has some amazing technical credentials, he has a strong foundation as a fan in traditional and true metal, he’s a total monster behind that kit.” Steve joins Death Dealer residing on the west coast of the United states, close to Mike Davis (Bass) and Sean Peck (Vocals).
Bassist Mike Davis – “Steve and I have been jamming the Death Dealer set for a few months now here in Hollywood and it has just been ferocious! He was our targeted first choice when we knew Rhino needed to be replaced. We are just glad he was available and now it is time to throw down the gauntlet! Now that three of us in the band are located here in Southern California, it makes it everything we are planning and doing that much easier.
Death Dealer would like to wish Kenny (Rhino) Earl all the best as he departs the unit to spend more time with his family and concentrate on a career outside of music. He will always be our brother.
2014 brings the second “yet to be titled” Death Dealer album and the band is now writing the material for this release.
Wide scale touring is currently being planned with announcements to be made very soon.
